Infant Massage - IAIM
The sense of touch is our first communication channel, allowing the body to receive various sensations from the outside world. Through this, we learn about our environment. This significant medium, known as touch, can stimulate and enhance development, especially in the earliest months of a baby's life. One of the globally recognized organizations promoting touch, founded by Vimala McClure, is the IAIM (International Association of Infant Massage).
In September 2015, Association "Blagotovorni Dodir" was established, becoming the official representative of IAIM in Serbia. IAIM offers training for infant massage, welcoming all parents and caregivers, whether for healthy, premature babies, or babies with special needs, aged 0 to 12 months, including adoptive families. During the training, parents learn various ways to use massage and touch to better understand the unique and constant changes a child undergoes in their first year of life, as well as to enhance and strengthen the family unit. Parents attend the training together with their little ones, and from the very first class, they start practicing and applying what they've learned. In addition to mothers, the training particularly supports the inclusion of fathers, providing them with an excellent way to connect and communicate with their children. |
What you will learn? The parent training consists of five sessions, incorporating both practical and theoretical components. It takes place in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere, prioritizing the needs of the babies. Sessions can be conducted in a group setting or individually, depending on the instructor's discretion. The infant massage training is led by certified IAIM instructors (Certified Infant Massage Instructor - CIMI®) who are qualified individuals with completed IAIM training.
Recognizing that parents know their child and their needs best, it's important to emphasize that during the training, the instructor does not massage the babies but demonstrates movements on a doll, guiding the parents and teaching them massage techniques while educating them on the significance of touch. In addition to the structured program, the training provides a valuable space for parents to share their experiences, socialize, and, along with their little ones, change their daily dynamics by engaging in activities outside the home. Research and experiences from parents who have completed the training indicate that this infant massage program can offer numerous benefits, such as:
